Greg Gibson 
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR

Stefanie Boettle, Lab Manager, from Germany, residing in the US since 2009. She holds a BBA in Business Admin & Marketing, a BA in Dance & Dance Education and is a certified Yoga Educator(ERYT500 & IAYT Yoga Therapist candidate). Stefanie has always combined her artistic and Yoga career with positions in the administrative field. She has created and managed outreach programs in the non-profit arts sector as well as in the Atlanta Public school system. Stefanie is a Yoga Educator in Atlanta and supports the Gibson Lab with great joy. 

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW 

Sini Nagpal is from the Punjab region of India. An MS-Bioinformatics to PhD transfer, she has become interested in statistical genetics to assess human disease risk and its evolution with environmental and lifestyle change. As a member of the NIDDK IBD-Genetics Consortium, she has also worked on TWAS and predicted-transcriptional risk scores to predict disease progression in IBD.

PHD GRADUATE STUDENTS

Maggie Brown is from San Antonio Texas and received her BS in Biology at Texas A&M University in 2017. An MS-PhD Bioinformatics transfer, her research involves single cell transcriptomics and analyzing single cell ATAC-seq data. Her work is in collaboration with Dr. Eun-Hyung Lee and Dr. Ignacio Sanz at Emory, focusing on characterizing the gene expression of B cells in lupus and gene regulation of B cells following COVID-19 infection.

Paramita Chatterjee is from India and resides in the US since 2010. Paramita received her BS in microbiology from University of Burdwan, India, and her M.S. in microbiology from Periyar University, India. Additionally she holds a MBA. Her current research is on scRNAseq to identify CQAs to improve therapeutic cell characterization for predictive clinical applications and improvement of therapeutic cell manufacturing.

Hira is a Fulbright Scholar from Karachi, Pakistan. She joined Georgia Tech with an undergraduate degree in Biotechnology to pursue an MS in Bioinformatics. She is currently a 2nd year PhD student in the Gibson lab. Her research involves single cell transcriptomics and analyzing single cell ATAC-seq data. She will work in collaboration with Dr. Eun-Hyung Lee at Emory. Her research interest involves and is not limited to cancer genomics, transcriptomics and autoimmune diseases.

Emily Greenwood graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a BS in Biology in 2020. She is interested in a career in personalized medicine. In collaboration with Dr. Bao's group at Rice university, she is currently working on fine-mapping Crohn's Disease loci using expression CROP-seq.

Savannah Washburn is originally from Missouri and received a B.S. in Biology from the University of Arkansas in 2021. Her current project involves analyzing single-cell RNA seq data from Perenial fistulizing Crohn's Disease patients.

Erin Connolly grew up in Chicago. She joined the Bioinformatics Phd program after graduating from Emory University with a B.S. in biology. Her thesis work focuses on how single-cell RNA-seq data can be used for meaningful biological discoveries. Outside of research, Erin enjoys gardening, Irish Dancing, and hanging out with her dog Finley.

Kyndal Goss is a Georgia native and graduated with a BS in Biology from the University of Georgia in 2019. She then completed a computational immunogenomics research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health before moving back to Atlanta to start the Immunology and Molecular Pathogenesis Ph.D. program at Emory under the mentorship of Dr. Ed Horwitz. Her interests include using computational methods to answer biological questions.

Varsha Bhat graduated from PES University, Bangalore, India in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in biotechnology and a minor in computer science. She is currently working on analyzing the influence of ancestry on pain susceptibilities in sickle cell disease. Her interests primarily lie at the intersection of genomics and data science.

Kate Xie grew up in Shenzhen, China and graduated with a BS in biology from Brandeis University.  Her interest is in genome/transcriptome-environment in complex diseases. Her project is to develop predicted polygenic transcriptional risk score that predict the progression of autoimmune disease.

Stephanie Dallaire is a PhD student who comes to us from the Boston area with a BS in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from UMass Amherst. After a stint working on cytogenetics and early population genetics research, she moved to PerkinElmer as a scientist doing assay development. She is excited to be back in school and work on polygenic risk scores as a way to identify disease in newborn screening.

MS GRADUATE STUDENTS

Tamarin Tandra graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2020. She spent the next couple of years working as an associate scientist at a biotech startup before coming to Georgia Tech to pursue an M.S. in Bioinformatics. Her current research focuses on analyzing single-cell RNA seq data to identify potential mechanisms underlying autoimmune diseases

Suraksha Vinod is a recent B.Tech Biotechnology graduate with a minor in Computer Science and Engineering from PES University, India. Although she has a wide variety of interests, including cancer biology and neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders, she found herself particularly intrigued by the significant role genetics plays in precision medicine and predictive health, thus motivating her to delve deeper into these fields.

Caleb Connors 2

Caleb Connors is a 5th year Biomedical Engineering Student from Denver, Colorado. He is interested in the use of bioinformatics and genomics in predictive health. His research has included work on designing viral capsids and currently works on processing and analyzing single-cell sequencing data for multiple projects.

Akshaya Thoutam is currently a second-year majoring in Neuroscience with a concentration in Health and Medical Sciences. She is a recipient of the Deans College of Sciences scholarship and Early Undergraduate Research Award. Akshaya has been involved with Dr. Gibson’s lab since the summer of 2020. Her current research focuses on assessing various cancer samples using scRNA-seq to make a pan-cancer atlas on B cells. Her research interests include cancer biology and systems biology.

Fang Shi graduated from Georgia Tech with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering in 2020. He is currently in the MS program for bioinformatics. He is interested in genomics and also works as a research technician in the Molecular Evolution core facility specializing in single-cell sequencing.

Emily Hang comes from Princeton, New Jersey, and she is a third-year undergraduate student in the BS/MS bioinformatics program. She is interested in the use of genetics and bioinformatics in medicine. Her current research is focused on analyzing the genetics behind facial expressions.

Ella Thomas is a fourth year undergraduate student from Snellville, Georgia, majoring in biology. She is particularly interested in genetic research regarding personalized medicine and predictive health and she intends to pursue this further through industry research after graduation. Her current research involves single-cell RNA sequencing for sickle cell patients.

Hanoka Miura is a fourth-year Tech student from Dunwoody, GA, majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in Biology. She has an interest in pursuing an MS in bioinformatics at Georgia Tech after graduating, and her current research focuses on the use of bioinformatics to analyze and compare cell composition of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) across multiple autoimmune diseases.

Alessandro Ferrari is a second-year Tech student from Rome, Italy, majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Biology. He is interested in leveraging Computer Science approaches to solve bioinformatics problems. He is currently working on single-cell transcriptomics, specifically developing pipelines for scRNA and scATAC sequencing data.

Jedrzej Konarkowski is a third-year undergraduate student from Gorzow, Poland, majoring in Biology and Psychology. He is interested in applying multi-omic approaches to investigate the mechanisms of psychiatric disorders. He is currently working on investigating the relationships between metabolites and medically relevant phenotypes using an integrative PheWAS approach.
